An Event Worth Blogging About

If your a mom anyway. Brooklyn had her first big basketball tournement yesterday. Bailey slept over, we got up early for french toast, sausage and fruit. Pulled the hair back in preperation of a very sweaty day and they were off. They got on the bus at 7:30 AM and headed up to Four Winds School which is on the reservation at Fort Toten, just south of Devils Lake. The first game for 5th grade was at 10:00 AM, so I left the house about 9:00 and went up to watch the action. The first game was incredible. The girls looked like pro's. The almost couldn't touch the ball without scoring. Brooklyn and Bailey both scored several points (along with everyone else) and the passing and defense was awesome. That game ended with Carrington on top, 28-4. The girls were pumped (and starving) so we ate the sandwiches we packed and bought nacho's and popcorn. While we ate I told the girls that each game was going to get harder and harder. At this point the easy teams were being eliminated, and things were going to get touch. Well, they did. Carrington 5th grade lost the next two games, but pulled out a big win in game four. It was such a fun day. Way back in August at the beginning of the season, the 5th grade girls looked like a bunch of fish out of water. They had no clue what they were doing. Yesterday I watched aggressive, coordinated, talented girls play their heart out. It was awesome. What great coaches these girls have. So much time goes into this and Coach Braatan and Coach Rosenau are the best. So, you know how I am about pictures. I've been sitting here trying to narrow it down, but you know me, there's a lot. Another food break between games 3 and 4. This is Bailey, Brooklyn and Sydney. A lot of these pictures turn out blurry because the light in gymnasiums is so poor. Carrington is Red...Brooklyn is number 10. She's gotten quite aggressive. Watch out.
You may notice that in some pictures she has glasses, and in some she doesn't. They fell off and were stepped on about 4 times. They never did break, but we figured we better not push our luck and stuck them in my purse. Coach Rosenau's half time pep talk. Is it just me...or does Brooklyn look really tiny here? Actually, all our Carrington girls looked tiny yesterday. So many of the other teams just towered over them. Anyway, that's it for my pictures. It was about 3:30 when our 5th graders were finished with their 4th game, but the Carrington 6th grade were playing for the championship at 4:00, so we stayed to cheer them on. That was a great game. They lost by 1 point in overtime. The 5th grade girls really look up to those 6th graders, so it was fun to stay and cheer them on. After the games, Wade was nice enough to take all the kids home (Ryan was working) so that Anna and I could run into Devils Lake for some grocery shopping and Chinese Food. What a fun day.
