Jamestown UWD

Cheerleading wrapped up when both Boys and Girls Basketball lost in the Regional Championships. There were some very sad kids, but I must admit to feeling a little relieved. I'm TIRED!
Immediately after the last ball game it was Competition Week for dancers. A few last chance practices. A few hours spent calming nerves and perfecting routines and we were off to Jamestown for United We Dance.
This is the second year Mobridge has participated in United We Dance and it excites me to see the awe on their faces when they see hundreds of dancers and so many skill levels. They come home from competition with a fire lit in them. They are ready to push their technique to a new level.
The Mini Kix (3rd and 4th graders) were on at 9:00 AM. While they didn't place, they learned a lot and had a great experience.

Next was Middle Kix (5th and 6th grade, including Rylee). They didn't place either, but this is the best I've seen them dance all year. At this age, attitude is a problem at practice (especially with my own child). Somehow, these girls hit puberty and think they know everything. I'm sure I was never like that. They didn't dance until 12:45 PM and were able to watch a lot of dancers go before them. I think that watching others helped them realize that sometimes their amazing coach knows what she's talking about and maybe they should try a few of the things she tells them. Not sure if that's what it was, but something happened and some of the little things I've been trying to fix were suddenly much improved.

The last team of the day was Junior Kix (8th Grade, including Brooklyn). And for the first time in Mobridge Just For Kix history we have a winner! Junior Kix got 3rd place. They were fabulous and I couldn't be more proud. Oh, and if your wondering which one Brooklyn is, she's the amazing one. You can't miss her. Ha ha. But really, she's one of the taller ones, with long legs that kick clear up to her nose. She is also the one in the splits at the end. (I might be a little proud.)

Photography by Rylee

She seems to have a eye for it.

Lost in the woods near Rapid City

I think I get Mom-of-the-Year awards for this one. I promise, I only let her out side in this weather dressed like that for her artistic pursuits.
We finally got some snow, giving Rylee a lot of new patterns and textures to capture.

Sunset at the track. One of her favorite places to be. Hopefully she still feels that way a month from now when Track Practice begins. :)

 Girls Rule!
Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale!
Brooklyn and her friends "hire" Rylee for photo shoots. Sometimes they do get along.

Rylee and I love pictures of our river and bridges. Frozen or not it's a beautiful river.

Gotta love these crazy girls.

I Moustache You A Question...

But I'll Shave It For Later
Took the Wrestling Cheerleaders to Rapid City for State Wrestling last weekend. 4 days, 3 nights on the road with me as their only adult. Exhausting!
What a bunch! Needless to say, we got a bit carried away with the moustaches.
Thought I'd share a few of the highlights.
Whitney ~ The Junior. She is the eldest of all my girls and so very mature! LOL. No really, you can see a huge maturity difference in Whitney vs. the other girls. She no longer needs other people's approval to be herself. I love this girl and her confidence and quirkiness.
Whitney, Siri and I. Siri is our foreign exchange student from Denmark. She turned 16 while in Rapid with us and we did our best to make it a "Sweet 16". Siri's strength is amazing. She is so far from home and struggles to fit in. She has an enormous heart and killer sense of humor. We will miss her terribly next year.
Front Row: Shawna and Kayleigh. Both sophmores. Both beautiful and sweet. Until you listen to a play-list on their iPod. Who knew such cute girls could listen to such raunchy thug music. Gotta love 'em.
The whole group. Including their very mature and responsible coach...me. :) While walking through the mall in our moustache's, a local boy asked the girls if their coach was upset with them for wearing the goofy moustache. Shawna's answer "No! She bought them for us!"  Ha Ha! Gotta have some fun.
Here the girls are ready to sport their 'stache's at the Civic Center before the final round of wrestle backs on Friday. Coach Novotny (wrestling coach) pretended not to recognize them. Other teams wanted a picture with them. Teddy Lopez (Mobridge Wrestler) told them they could wear the Mobridge uniform or the 'stache's, but not both. Too funny.

My sweet little Freshmen, Brandi and Alexis. These girls have amazing potential. For being the youngest on our team they show so much poise and responsibility. These two are leaders in the making.

Shawna and her enormous order of food. For such skinny little girls, they sure can put it away.

Eating at Texas Road House and all Whitney wanted was bacon. Girl loves her swine.
This pic is a little scary. Alexis looks crazy, Brandi looks like she's about to cry and I'm not sure what Siri is doing with that knife.
All the girls at Siri's Birthday Dinner.
The girls gave Siri this framed team picture with a special note from each of them.
When she went to breakfast we snuck into her hotel room and decorated.

I had such a good time with my girls, but was Oh So Happy to get home and have a break from teenage drama and thug music. Ha Ha. Can't wait for our next trip.

Cheerleaders

The season is almost over. State Wrestling this weekend and 2 more weeks of basketball.

Before I head into the stress of tryouts for next season,

Just thought I'd take a second to reflect on how amazing and beautiful this year's crop of girls are.

They are able to be downright silly, no matter what anyone thinks

Or get out on the floor and wow the crow with their talent.

They have no problem being "nerds" and it shows as we've had nobody have to be benched for grades this year. :)

They are creative and artistic and have made our school Shine with Spirit and Pride.
We've had many early mornings and late nights on the road in support of our teams. And these girls do it with a grin. All day long.

They have learned that there is no "I" in teamwork and have decided against being "each man for himself:" and have pulled together to support each other and be life long friends.

It took a while, but they finally agree with me that "The most important thing you can wear is your smile."

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love these girls.
They make me proud, every day.

Little Eyes Upon You

There are little eyes upon you
and they're watching night and day,
There are little ears that quickly
take in every word you say.
There are little hands all eager
to do anything you do;
And a little girl who's dreaming
of the day she'll be like you.
You're the little girl's idol,
you're the wisest of the wise.
In her little mind about you
no suspicions ever rise.
She believes in you devoutly,
holds all that you say and do;
She will say and do, in your way,
when she grows up like you.
There's a wide eyed little girl
who believes you're always right;
And her eyes are always opened,
and she watches day and night.
You are setting an example
every day in all you do,
For the little girl who's waiting
to grow up to be like you.

The future? The 2011-2012 MPHS Cheerleaders have certainly set a high standard. They are absolutely worthy of these little eyes that are watching.
