Weather Forcast

You might have to live here to see the humor in this. Believe me, as I sit in my house because dance was cancelled...AGAIN, due to ANOTHER BLIZZARD...this is FUNNY!

KJ Tourney 2009

The tables have turned at last. Spectator becomes player, and player becomes spectator!

This was Rylee's first big day as a future Carrington B-Ball player. She claims there were no nerves, but I'm afraid she has no fingernails left, which proves that the nerves might have been acting up a little. Rylee played awesome, and I think she just might be the cutest kid on the court! Even Brooklyn couldn't get over how cute she looked. The girls can't wait for the snow to melt so that they can practice together and Brooklyn can teach Rylee some of her skills.

And Spring is Gone...

(Click on the title of this post for a news report) I've gotten lots of phone calls this week. The theme seems to be "Are you guys OK?" The answer is yes, we are fine, and staying relatively dry here in Carrington. The rest of the state? Not so much. Here's a few pictures from the Fargo/Moorhead area today.
Fargo is getting the most national attention, but the whole state is in flood warnings. Most of the rivers are cresting way above flood level. In Carrington, we are not too close to any rivers, and therefore are out of the flood danger. But there is still massive amounts of water around. The snow melt began in a hurry last week and sump pumps have been working overtime. Some have not been able to keep up, but so far so good at the Muir house. Here's a couple pictures of my back yard on Monday.
So the Fargo flooding has not affected us too much. I had a dance competition scheduled there for Sunday that has been postponed. Otherwise, we are just spending a little extra prayer time for the poor families and businesses that are effected by all that water. There is still lots of snow left to melt in Carrington. Pray that the sump pumps keep up. I don't want any water in the basement. The other worry is sewers backing up from too much water. I really don't want a sewage back up in my basement! Anyway, spring came. Snow started melting. Birds returned. And then it was Tuesday. Rain most of the day, turning to ice storms in the afternoon. Winds raging and knocking over ice laden trees and power lines. Then the ice turned to snow and more wind. School was cancelled again on Wednesday. Ryan was in Grafton for work and had to stay another night. It took him 5 hours to make the 2 hour drive on Wednesday. Roads are solid ice. Trees are buckling under the heave burden. It's the craziest thing. I never witnessed ice storms before. Wow. Those birds I was so excited to see? Well, they are desperately trying to find shelter in tree's that look like this:
The "pond" in the back yard is now an ice skating rink. The kids were able to make it to school today, but it has continued to snow all day. Most everyone has power again, and there is hope that it might warm up in the future. At that point, we'll just have to start praying over the sump pump again!

TagTag...I'm it this time.

Leesa tagged us with a fun photo challenge that goes like this: Open your pictures, find the sixth folder and choose the sixth photo. Then post the photo and blog about it.

This is apparently a picture of Chandra's toes. Well, I don't think the photographer was going for a shot of the toes, but she does have her bare feet in the way! This was taken in August of 2005 at Crystol's house. The girls and I were home in SLC for a visit and my girlfriends and all our kids descended on Crystol's house for lunch. You can see baby Kobe's arm. He's laying on Chandra's legs. And Brooklyn next to Chan, looking so young!
I tag: Anna, Miranda, Jenn Muir, Becca, Cheryl, and Jolie. Have fun!

Spring is here!

Officially, today is the first day of spring, though signs of it are few and far between up here in the northern wastelands! But, we are very excited about those few signs. First 5 signs of spring in North Dakota:
5) I can see the pavement. Wow...I know. Exciting. But there has been so much snow pack that we haven't seen the pavement since Nov. 7th. Yes, I'm keeping track. So, driving on roads that are not ice and snow packed is a treat! Never mind that there is still a good 3 feet of snow in my front yard. :)
4) Melting! Melting! Melting! While all this crazy snow melt means worrying about water in the basement, flood warnings, and leaky roof at work...it still means it is warming up above the freezing point.
3) Car wash! Poor old Alice has been in desperate need of a bath, but I couldn't risk getting frozen inside. It was warm enough yesterday for a car wash. She's now so pretty and clean!
2) Birds chirping! I swear I heard some. I even saw a bird. I had forgotten what they sound like.
1) A fly. Only in North Dakota do we cheer at the sight of a bug, but it happened...I swear. It was toward the end of one of my aerobics classes. We were laying on the floor finishing up dome ab exercises when we noticed a fly buzzing around the light. Seriously, the whole room cheered! IT'S WARM ENOUGH FOR BUGS!!! Soon we will complain about the bugs, but for now we'll take any signs of warmth we can get.

P.S. That picture was not taken in ND. It's not that springy yet!!!

Swimming

After competition, it was swim time. Too bad Dad forgot the swim bag. That means we had to stop at Walmart for new suits.

And the winner is....

Drum Roll Please.....
Mini Kix 2A division..... First Place.....CARRINGTON!!!! Here we are waiting for the announcement. And a group hug when we won. And then we wait. And wait. And wait some more.
And finally it's time for Middle Kix division 3A. Second place goes to....you guessed it. CARRINGTON!!! I could not be more proud of my dancers today. They worked so hard and it really shows. So many coaches commented to me about how amazing they looked, and they did. I don't care if we had gotten last place (but we like 1st and 2nd) because they were so good and I am so proud! Now, 2 weeks 'till Fargo UWD. Time to hit the practice floor all over again.

"Last Chance Workout"...er...practice...

This was our big week. UWD. Here's a couple pictures from Monday's Last Chance Practice. These girls worked hard. This is Mini Kix in their ending position. Brooklyn is in front on the right. And here is Middle Kix doing...well, I'm not sure what they are doing. Probably what they do best, Goofing Off! Remember when you were in 7th grade and you thought you were the shizzz? That's these girls. Gotta love 'em.

Weather

I know there's only 8 days till spring, but with weather like this...it's hard to be optimistic.
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CDT /11 AM MDT/ TODAY.

SUB ZERO TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH NORTHWEST WINDS OF 5 TO 15 MPH WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILLS OF 25 TO 40 BELOW THIS MORNING.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT FROST BITE AND HYPOTHERMIA CAN OCCUR WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

Brick

Happy Birthday to the goofiest man we know!

New Sport

Brooklyn is all about trying new things. The latest is Volleyball. She practices almost every day after school with her team and plays a few matches every week. I'm impressed with her skills. She's not afraid to go after the ball. She'll dive for it. I'd never do that! She had a pretty good serve too. Not that I really know anything about Volleyball. :)

Some pictures of pictures

My love of pictures was inherited. Goes back many generations. I took some pictures of a few of my favorite pictures at Grandma's house. This is my Grandpa. Handsome Fella. A great picture of Grandpa and Grandma. Grandpa and Buck. Grandma Weezie. Great Grandpa and Great Grandma. What a cool picture. Great Grandma bow hunting. She held the Idaho record for a long time.
The four baker kids in the boat. My mom's high school picture. Danette's high school picture. This last picture is full of memories. This is Grandpa's cabin. The cabin we spent so many wonderful times at. The river we played in. The mountains we hiked and rode horse in. We baked cakes with Grandma and shot guns with Grandpa. We sewed with Grandma and tied flies with Grandpa. We formed such strong family bonds. We learned the best of everything at the cabin.
