Another post about the weather...

We had big plans last weekend. Planned on letting the girls skip school Friday and head to Carrington for the weekend. But, living in the frigid, icebound north, plans can often change at the drop of a hat.
Weather reports didn't look good for late Friday and the rest of the weekend. But we thought, if we left early enough, we'd get to Carrington ahead of the storm and have some fun anyway.
Well, it rained all night thursday. Yes, I said rained. And yes, that means ice. Lots of ice.
We thought we'd go anyway. Just drive slow.
We hit the road early. I called the school on our way to let them know the girls would be absent, only to find out school had been cancelled. I began to have doubts about the wisdom of our drive.
We drove on anyway.
About an hour out of Mobridge, we stopped food. As I stood in line in the gas station listening to the locals bemoan the horrid conditions, I began to get very apprehensive.
Back in the car, Ryan and I decided it was best to head back home. Things were getting ugly fast.
It continued to rain, quickly coating everything (roads, windshields, powerlines) in a very thick layer of ice. We made it back to Mobridge just in time for the wind to seriously pick up. Wasn't long before power became a luxury.

Powerlines were dropping all over the state.
We were quite lucky in Mobridge. Power was on and off enough for us to keep the house warm. Others weren't so lucky. Sunday was the worst. No power all day. Ryan, the girls and I spent a few hours at Alco escorting customers around the store with flashlights. Cooporate wouldn't let them close.
Monday arrived with more ice, and horrible winds, no school, but power had been resored.
School resumed, albeit late, on Tuesday. But many people thoughout the state are still without power and many even without water. What a mess.
Glad I'm not a lineman. That's some hellish working conditions.

January Fun

Last week was crazy. School was supposed to resume after the holidays on Jan 4th. But, due to the food situation with the move from old high school to new high school, school was cancelled the 4th and 5th. Then, crazy storm moved in the night of the 5th, dumping enough snow and wind to cancel school the 6th and 7th. So, Friday the 8th, school started late (10:00) giving them time to plow the roads. All the extra time off school gave us lots of bonding time with Buddy the Hamster.

The cancelled school also provided some fun times in the snow. There is a 15 foot snow bank in theparking lot of the church across the street.

Probably the best news is the sledding hill. You don't realize the luxury of a hill that is not man made. That doesn't have telephone poles and grain bins to dodge. Our Mobridge sledding hill is huge and we loved it!

The walk up the hill is a whole lot harder. But hey, it's a good work out.

Rylee couldn't figure out how to go straight. She flipped around backwards every time!

Well, the weather is nice today. The kids are at school. Life is back to normal.

In the interest of keeping up...

A brief update on the goings on at the Muir House.
Once we had finally dug our way out of the drive way, (thank goodness for neighbors with snow blowers, ours is still in Carrington)

We headed to Carrington the sunday after Christmas for a couple days.

Brooklyn's picture of the snow on our way to Carrington.
Stayed at Mark and Fayes. Hung out with friends. Did some hunting. I taught a reunion aerobics class and laughed so hard I nearly pee'd my pants!
Islin and Aishlee came home with us and spent a few days destroying my basement and making snowmen and sledding.

Then on New Year's Eve a bunch of the Carrington friends came to our house. Total, we had 10 kids (only 1 boy) and 7 adults. Most stayed at the Wrangler Inn, but we hung out and ate at my house. It was packed...but super fun. While Ryan and Mark hunted, and Jim napped, us girls (and Logan) were busy doing this:

Not sure I love how I'm looking in the swim suit! Oh well. Good times.

The great things about all these pictures and video's...I didn't take any of them. The girls are LOVING their camera's!
Now it's Jan. 4th. The kids were supposed to go back to school today, but that has been postponed till Wednesday. The move from the "old" Mobridge High School to the New Mobridge High school didn't go quite as planned and the kitchen will not be opperational till Wednesday. So, no food for kids, therefore no school till Wednesday. Can't say I'm dissapointed. We were so busy over Christmas break that I don't feel like I got any lazy time with my girls. Today and tomorrow are all about girl time.

Where's my MoJo?

Remember the times when I used to blog, like, everyday? What happened? I've totally lost that blogging feeling! I don't know why? I still have a desire to write. I still have lots of things going on in life to share with my far away family and friends. I'm feeling good. I just don't want to type it all up. Hmmmm.... I wonder why?
